The harassment by local fauna promoted us to gather the crop 10 days earlier than in 2015.
In general, the grapes were ripe and had good colour; they were firm, the husks were of appropriate thickness, and the grapes had excellent sugar content. The white grapes had somewhat less sugar than in 2015. The white grapes were more acid and had a fruitier flavour.
The grapes were collected at night, on September 11, starting with the white Gewürztraminer grapes, followed by the Chardonnay and Viognier grapes and ending with the Pinot Noir grapes on the rural estate of La Cuestecica.
The Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling provided a testimonial sample; these were the rows of vines that suffered most at the hands of fauna.
The red grapes from the rural estate of La Tinaja (Pinot Noir) and La Carrasca (Syrah) were collected on the night of September 16.
The Monastrell crop on the Majal de Bullas rural estate was gathered in the last week of September.
With this harvest we planned to produce our first significant batch of wine: 2,200 bottles.
